The Auschwitz - Birkenau Museum
The Nazi death camps operated from 1940 to 1945. It is estimated that the Nazis murdered over a million of European Jewes, Poles and Gypsies. Nowadays the museum, the part opened to visitors, consists of two of the largest concentration camps, Auschwitz I and Auschwitz II - Birkenau, where gas chambers and the prisoner's barracks are preserved. Furthermore, the museum has an exhibition consisting of prisoner's photographs personal things and souvenirs. Organised tours, with multilingual tour guides, take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. The tours include sightseeing of the Auschwitz I and II camps as well as projection of a 15 minute film from the liberation of the camps.
